I like the concept of your podcast. The contents are pretty good, but I can’t get past two things. 1. Your Japanese pronunciation.2. Your promo needs improvement. (only one area)I’ll quantify this so it’s constructive. It’s “mahn-gah”and “ah-ni-meh”In Japanese the length of the vowel sounds count a lot. In fact, the inflection and length of the vowel sounds makes a difference in “obaa-chan” versus “Oba-chan”. This may sound picky, but the fact is that it does lend a little bit of credibility to pronounce the Japanese title right and that you are in fact as much of an Otaku as you claim to be.You can learn Japanese and the proper pronunciation from Japanesepod101.com. I think it will give you credibility that you need, even if it’s minor credibility.Keep in mind that the majority of the anime imported to the US is dubbed in Canada and in California, where there is a strong habit to make all “ah” sounds in English “ay” sounds. They aren’t creditable. This may help pull in the super Otaku audience that snub their noses at dubs. I believe you’re catering to this group a lot, v. the newbies that think anime is just a neat fad to latch onto and get friends. (If my impression serves me right).I took Japanese formally, though I can speak and read about 2.5 grade level of it fairly well. Not well enough to translate complex things, but enough to nail names, look up kanji and count strokes. But even basic pronunciation will lend creditability.Let me put it in a more conducive way… it’s the difference between some person saying “Chobeets” versus “Chobits” (short i sound) because they read the romaji properly. (Which I hear someone do… and correct someone on it. *sighs*)I hope that sounded constructive rather than elitist…The other thing is that I had a hard time finding your podcast. I couldn’t figure out if it was “vita” Veeta” “Veeda” “Viga” or “odagal” “otagal” or if I was dealing with a foreign language. It might help people find you if you spell out your name and location. People are lazy and tend to give up easily in this sad day and age, so it might help out if you do so. I played the promo a few times to triple check and couldn’t find how to spell it and it took me a while to figure it out.*shrugs* You don’t *have* to post this, but I hope it helped you out. And I hope this helps you draw a wider audience as well.
It has been awhile since a made that promo. A long while. I made it when I was a noob. I should make a new one. Where did you hear it if you don’t mind me asking. Anyway, good on ya! I tried to study Japanese and I wasn’t very good. Even if its not a complex understanding it’s still more than me. Very impressive, Hitsuji. Thanks for the words. I was never good at pronouncing foreign words and my accent doesn’t help much either. I just have to try harder and not be lazy. Besides, I am an otaku and I do want some mad creds. ^_^
